Miss Sunday Sun - see the shortlist on Sunday

THE search for our next Miss Sunday Sun is almost over.

We teamed up with top north agency AM Models back in March to find the region’s next top model, and since then we’ve introduced you to 23 hopefuls who told us why they thought they had what it takes to win the coveted beauty crown for 2008.

Apart from the honour of becoming Miss Sunday Sun, the eventual winner will secure a 12-month contract with AM Models along with a £1000 cash prize.

The runner-up will receive £250, while the third placed hopeful will receive £100. And Sunday Sun readers have a vital part to play in deciding who will be in with a chance of the big prize.

From the 74 girls featured here, a public vote will determine the dazzling dozen who will go before our judging panel.

The voting lines open today and will stay open until midnight next Sunday.

The 12 short-listed girls will then be whittled down to six finalists who will attend a coronation ceremony at trendy art store The Biscuit Factory in Newcastle. One woman who knows exactly what it feels like to go through to the final stage is Cheryl Davison. The 25-year-old from Newcastle is the current Miss Sunday Sun.

She said: “The only advice I can give to people who have to face the judges is to be yourself. They will see through you if you try to be someone you’re not. I was very nervous last year when all the girls got together for the final. Although you are all competing against each other there was a friendly atmosphere.”

The new winner will literally be crowned Miss Sunday Sun as designer Rosie Willett has produced a tasteful crown.

AM Models owner Leah Wilson said the eventual winner could find themselves gracing catwalks at fashion shows and working for magazines and on TV.

She said: “We’ll be looking for someone who is going to get the most work. Ideally, that means someone who is the right height for the catwalk and who is able to fit into lots of different categories of modelling.

“She also needs to be reliable, able to work at short notice, have a nice, friendly personality and a good attitude.”

Sunday Sun editor Colin Patterson said: “The Miss Sunday Sun contest is becoming a firm favourite with our readers. I wish all the contestants the best of luck and I’m sure the best girl will win.”

TO register your vote, call the Sunday Sun Voteline on 0901-229 2525 and, when prompted, enter the code for the person that you would like to win. Or text SSUNVOTE1 followed by a space and the code of the person you’d like to win to 84080. For example . . . SSUNVOTE1 001.
