Miss Sunday Sun Amy Elliott takes first shots at big time

Beauty considered suicide

FORMER Miss Sunday Sun Cheryl Davison has admitted she considered suicide as a teenager because she thought she was ugly.

Cheryl, who beat hundreds of wannabes to win last year’s Miss Sunday Sun title, has revealed she suffers from a psychological condition known as body dysmorphic disorder.

It compels sufferers to fixate on a certain part of their body and convince themselves that they have some kind of physical defect.

In Cheryl’s case, as a teenager she convinced herself she had an unusual nose, and would spend hours in front of the mirror applying make up in an attempt to cover what she saw as an unsightly feature.

And despite winning our competition and a professional modelling contract with AM Models, Cheryl admits she still suffers from the disorder.

The 25-year-old hopes that by talking about the issue she will help other sufferers.

In a recent magazine interview, the Northumberland beauty revealed she started to suffer from the condition when she was 11.

She said: “I hated how I looked. I’d check my appearance hundreds of times a day and thought my nose was disgusting, even though my family and friends told me I looked fine.

“I’d miss days off school because I couldn’t stand people looking at me and begged my mum and dad to let me have plastic surgery.”
