‘Big Ead’ on big screen
A FILM about Brian Clough’s most controversial job as manager is set for release in March.
The Damned United stars actor Michael Sheen as Clough at the height of his reputation as “Old Big ‘Ead”.
The film charts his 44 days as manager of Leeds United in 1974.
He was sacked by the Leeds directors after alienating star players, notably Johnny Giles and Billy Bremner, over their playing style.
It is based on the book by David Peace, written from Clough’s point of view, which critics liked more than his widow Barbara, who felt it dwelled too heavily on his anger and drinking.
Sheen said: “He was an iconic figure.”
