ASPIRING actors could tread the boards at a top theatre after a production company announced an open audition.
The Producers — the popular comedy musical based on the 1968 Mel Brooks film — comes to Newcastle’s Theatre Royal in September.
And Newcastle Musical Theatre Company has launched a regional search for wannabe actors to play the lead roles. Dancers are also being sought.
The theatre group says hopefuls should watch the 2005 film version of the play to get an idea of what is required.
Applicants should arrive at the Theatre Royal Stage Door from 9am on Sunday, March 1, with sheet music of a song from a West End or Broadway show which they will have to sing.
They will also perform a short dance routine, sing a second song chosen by the judging panel and, possibly, be asked to deliver some lines. Each applicant is also required to provide a theatrical CV and a passport- sized photograph.
