A FREAK wave is believed to have claimed the life of a popular mum during a dream holiday in the Caribbean.

Lynn Caslin, 47, of Carlisle in Cumbria, drowned while on holiday in the Dominican Republic on Tuesday during torrential weather which claimed the lives of six people.

Storms triggered landslides which damaged homes, bridges and roads, forcing the evacuation of around 12,000 in the north and north east of the country.

Tributes were last night pouring in for Lynn, who was known to thousands of people for her work as manager of Morton Community Centre, with many describing the mum-of-three as “one of life’s lovely people”.

Her husband Sam returned from the popular snorkelling and diving resort of Sosua to the couple’s home in Carlisle last Thursday.

Morton councillor Peter Farmer, who knew Lynn for more than 20 years, told of the community’s shock after they learned of the tragedy.

He said: “People just can’t believe that this has happened.

“Lynn’s death represents a terrible loss to the community as a whole.”
