Anonymity praised as thug is jailed

Anderson suffered wounds to his chest, arm, leg, thumb and had a punctured lung after the BMW he was driving was ambushed in broad daylight by John Chisholm on Hylton Road, Sunderland.

Newcastle Crown Court heard how the “bloodthirsty” attack on May 24 2007 was in revenge for an earlier attempted shooting of Chisholm’s son - which Anderson was accused of being involved in.

Judge Tony Lancaster said: “You committed this offence in a public street in daylight with complete disregard for the citizens of Sunderland, including some children.

“You took the law into your own hands, you meted out your own punishment.

“In my view this shows you are cunning and dangerous.”

Chisholm, 49, from Sunderland, denied wounding with intent and violent disorder but was found guilty after a four-week trial earlier this year.

Judge Lancaster commended the detectives involved in investigating the case and ensuring the witnesses were able to give their evidence safely.
