Hairy biker Dave reveals his reason for cooking

HAIRY Biker Dave Myers has revealed how the heartache of caring for his sick mother led to his passion for cooking.

The bearded foodie is loved by millions for his carefree attitude to life and beaming expression, as one half of telly duo The Hairy Bikers alongside Simon King.

But his jovial personality is a world away from a childhood spent caring for his mother in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, after she was struck down by the debilitating condition Multiple Sclerosis (MS) when he was a young boy.

Dave partly attributes his success in life to being forced to learn how to cook in order to care for himself, his father Jim and his mother Margaret.

He’ll now be putting his culinary skills to use for charity, by urging people to take part in the MS Society’s Cake Break event, which calls for everyone to bake a cake and invite friends around for a fundraising coffee morning.

The cheerful chef, 51, who is currently filming his latest TV series, said: “I must have been about eight when mam was diagnosed with MS but there had been signs of the disease before that.

“We saw MS symptoms one day when she was bringing tea into the dining room for us.
