Hunt for sick sex attacker

The 18-year-old got out of a taxi near to the entrance to the Cheviot Grange Road Estate.

She was then approached by a male who took her into a field opposite the estate and sexually assaulted her.

The man leading the hunt for the attacker is acting Detective Sergeant Nick Lawrence of North Shields CID.

He said: “This was a relatively early time in the evening and I believe this incident will have been witnessed by passers by either on foot or in motor vehicles.

“I’d appeal for anybody that saw or heard anything to contact me as soon as possible.

“I’d like to reassure the public that this appears to be an isolated incident.”

One nearby shop worker said: “It wasn’t even as if it was that late at night, I’m sure someone must have seen something.

“I feel sorry for the girl though, it’s a horrible thing to happen.”
