Mechanic's big U-turn onto new career path

David’s friends didn’t give him an easy time about his career switch.

He said: “I was tortured! Especially by the lads from the garage.

“They were all hairy mechanics from out in the sticks.”

Salon owner Sarah Yorke quickly realised his potential and entered him into a competition after just six weeks.

He came second in the award for the North East Gent’s Apprentice of the Year and gained the trust of his mates who flooded in to have their locks chopped.

David then spent two and a half years as a stylist at top Middlesbrough salon Stephen Barker, where he met his now business partner Andy.

David said: “We just realised that there was nothing like this in Boro.

“There are either unisex salons or barbers where we didn’t feel you could get a salon cut.

The pair both took out personal loans, found their Borough Road premises and got their mates on board to help them deck out the salon.

The “Rude” boys have now taken on a new apprentice — 20-year-old Chris Patton — and are looking for new opportunities to move the brand forward, earmarking York as a potential next base.

V Rude Grooming’s new apprentice Chris is looking for models to help him develop his skills. For more information contact the salon on 01642-211221.
