NORTH fashion designer Kate Fearnley dresses the stars from Jordan to Girls Aloud. LIZ LAMB chats to her.
HER client list reads like a Who’s Who of celebrity.
X Factor winner Alexandra Burke is a fan, as are girl band of the moment The Saturdays, and Girls Aloud’s Kimberley and Nadine.
Jordan has also been spotted in an OK magazine shoot wearing a Kate Fearnley creation and Coronation Street actress Michelle Keegan — who plays David Platt’s girlfriend Tina — chose to wear one of her designs when she picked up a soap award.
Not bad going for a Middlesbrough lass who still lives and works in the North.
“Alexandra has worn quite a lot of my stuff, and Katie Price has too,” said Kate, 32, who lives in Saltburn, Teesside.
“It is important to me to have celebrities wearing my designs . . . it’s always good for business.
“It’s nice to see that they really want to wear it.
“It’s a compliment that celebrities like my stuff and they come back for more.”
Kate set up her label at the tender of age of 23 and has since grown it into a national brand, with shops across the UK stocking her designs, as well as having her own store in Middlesbrough.
The designer has a boutique range, which features high fashion and directional pieces, as sported by the stars.
She has also just a launched a diffusion celebrity styles collection in response to the current culture dedicated by the looks of the stars. It launched on Friday in Selfridges’ stores in Manchester and Birmingham, and Fenwick in Newcastle will stock the boutique range in June.
Kate said: “Celebrity styles is something that I have been thinking about for a few years.
“When I opened the boutique there was so many girls bringing in magazines wanting to look like celebrities, and it’s such an expensive thing to dress like a celebrity. I thought there was scope for me in the business to do something with it.
“I have just launched the first collection based on celebrity styles and it’s made of stretch jersey and bold colours.
“Jersey works well for a variety of sizes so you don’t have to be a perfect size 10.”
