Couple set up food export business in Spanish cave

The pair started by sending some samples of Serrano ham back to family and friends in the UK.

They found that the tasty Spanish sausage was whetting the appetites of those back home and demand for the meat started to grow.

Operating from their cave, they now export a variety of Spanish hams, along with many of the country’s other specialist foods across the UK and Europe.

Gayle added: “It was a huge task as the cave really did resemble a hole in the ground with no water, electricity or even proper walls or floors.

“But it was a fantastic opportunity and we worked non-stop for over four months while we lived on site to get our new home ready to move into.

“After the renovations were done, it was time to seriously think about making a living. I had done some teaching and translation and Iain had helped other people with their caves, but it wasn’t enough.”

Goods are shipped direct from Andalucia and can be on your doorstep within five days.

Alongside the food products the couple also supply complementary accessories such as specialist ham stands and serving dishes. For more information visit www.orceserranohams.com
