AN ENTREPRENEUR, once banned from being a company director, has written to the Prime Minister demanding his instant resignation for showing “a complete contempt for this nation”.
Steven Katirai says he “took it on the chin” when he was banned from being a company director for four years back in 2001, for customs and VAT regulation breaches while running his double-glazing firm Diplomat Profiles.
While he may have lost his right to be a director, Mr Katirai says he always tried to look after his employees, action he claims Gordon Brown has not attempted to carry out for the people of Great Britain.
In an emotive, open letter to 10 Downing Street, the married dad-of-three, of Morpeth, Northumberland, claims the PM would have been prosecuted and banned from directorships — just like he was — had he made mistakes as a director of a limited company.
And the six-page demand — which Number 10 has acknowledged — has become a huge online hit, as hundreds of people have written to Mr Katirai in support of the letter.
Mr Katirai, 54, who now helps new companies develop, said: “I’ve had some successes and some failures and I’ve employed a lot of people.
“I was banned from being a director. That was for Diplomat Profiles, which went into liquidation, and I didn’t agree with their reasoning, but I took it on the chin.
