It’ll take her three months
REDUCING her regional accent will be like learning a whole new language for Cheryl, according to accent reduction expert Andre Gottshalk.
Andre has helped hundreds of people get to grips with the English language through his London-based company, called Accentsoftening.com, and he says the experience is like going back to school for many.
He said: “Most people who come to me are foreigners or people with strong regional accents, and what we do is break down all the English vowel and consonant sounds and make sure they are annunciating properly.
“Some people find it very daunting when they first come to class because they can sound like children, making the sounds out loud.
“It’s hard to say how long it takes but for someone from China, it would take longer because we have many sounds they don’t make in their language. But for someone like Cheryl, from the UK, depending on how much she practises, it could take around three months.”
