A NORTH beauty is hoping to be crowned Britain’s Next Top Model . . . despite suffering from an eating disorder.
Teesside woman Jade McSorley is hoping to triumph over 19 other contestants to win a modelling contract with a top London agency on the television show.
But despite the pressure on models to remain svelte, Jade, who suffers from anorexia, has been told she needs to pile on the pounds or she won’t have any hope of winning.
The programme, on satellite channel Living TV, will allow viewers to see how the 21-year-old battles her eating disorder every day. Jade, who is 5ft 9ins, plummeted to just six and a half stone before filming and had to be admitted to hospital.
She worried that appearing on the programme could glamorize the condition and entice other wannabe models to risk their health in pursuit of a size zero figure.
But the she said viewers would see her turned down for jobs by industry insiders who advise her to put on weight.
She said: “The industry has got such a bad reputation I thought, ‘Do I deserve to be here as I am promoting an unhealthy image?’
“But then I was determined to make myself happy and it has helped me put on weight. The show gives you support if you need it.
