Jade's battle to become Britain's Next Top Model

“I never wanted my weight to be an issue. I came into the show with literally zero confidence and I’ve got so much more.”

Jade has always harboured ambitions to be a model and was convinced to join the show by her grandmother.

She explained: “It was my Nana who told me to enter it really. I have always said that I wanted to be a model and she said, ‘Why don’t you just do it?’ so it’s all thanks to my Nana really.”

Mary George, of eating disorder charity b-eat, believes other people can take inspiration from Jade’s decision to take part in the show.

She said: “Much of the causes behind eating disorders are down to lack of self esteem and Jade has said that by taking part in the show her self confidence has grown.

“I am also encouraged by the fact that people inside the industry refuse to give her work until she puts on some more weight.”

Despite the danger of working in an industry which places so much importance on looks, Jade is convinced it won’t harm her recovery.

She said: “I think I will cope OK with criticism, as much as you can cope with it.

“You expect it in this industry. I know what I am letting myself in for and you just have to take it as constructive.”

The series starts on April 20 and Jade admits she is looking forward to new experiences, but will miss her loved ones.

“I am going to miss my friends and my family and my boyfriend when I am away, but I like to meet new people and I am looking forward to that.”
