A MOTHER has told how her life has changed since fashion guru Gok Wan gave her a makeover after the death of her father.
Ali Kennedy was struggling to cope with life after her family was struck by a catalogue of disasters.
Her father Alan died in January following a long illness, her son suffered serious injury in a car crash and she too was in constant pain while she was being treated for kidney stones.
But the mum-of-four now has a wide smile on her face after Gok Wan picked her to star in his new series, Gok’s Fashion Fix.
He surprised her as she carried out a weekly shop at Tesco in Kingston Park, Newcastle, before taking her on the shopping trip of her life, giving her a new wardrobe worth hundreds of pounds and a fabulous new hairdo. Ali, of High Heaton, Newcastle, said: “It was the most amazing experience. I had a fantastic time . . . and Gok and I got on like a house on fire.
“I made him a thank you card and his eyes filled up with tears. He nearly cried.”
Ali is a self-confessed bargain queen, but Gok secretly trawled through her clothes and, to her immense embarrassment, hung her entire wardrobe in Newcastle’s Grainger Market for everyone to see.
She realised quite how little she wears from all her sale bargains, and says she now knows how to shop for new clothes without wasting money . . . an absolute must for her during the credit crunch.
