Ian Allison, pictured, and Kevin Featherstone, top, hope to see a massive increase in sales in their eco-friendly transport.

They scoured the world sourcing hi-tech components to construct an electric motorcycle, which they then assemble at their base – www.elecscoot.co.uk – in Consett, County Durham.

They currently produce four models which range from having a top speed of 30mph to 60mph, costing between 8p and 14p a day to run.

Ian, 48, said: ”Apart from making environmental sense it also makes financial sense to own something like this.”
