Death was tragic and avoidable
JENNY GILBERTSON, Andrea’s solicitor at Ben Hoare Bell, which has five North offices, said: "This was a tragic case involving the avoidable death of a much wanted baby.
"Our client’s distress was made worse by the insensitive way in which the hospital responded to her concerns about the level of care she received. While we are delighted to have obtained compensation for Mrs Harrison, we recognise that no amount of money can ever make up for the loss of a child.
"Solicitors often come under fire for taking money off the NHS. Our hope is always that lessons will be learnt from cases like these and the mistakes made by the NHS will not be repeated."
Stephen Eames, Chief Executive of County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, wrote to Andrea: "The Medical and Midwifery staff understand that this was and will still be a most painful time for you. We all express our deepest sympathies for the distress and anguish that we have caused you and your family.
"I hope that in time you will be able to find some comfort that your loss has led to a very careful review of our clinical procedures and protocols in the hope that this will prevent others from suffering as you have."
