Pop Idol star Zoe Birkett pays tribute to Michael Jackson

SINGING sensation Zoe Birkett has spoken of her devastation after the death of Michael Jackson.

The former Pop Idol star and actress played the female lead in Thriller Live, a musical celebrating Jacko’s songs - and even met the man himself.

She told the Sunday Sun: “It is devastating news.

“I grew up with Michael Jackson’s music, I have always been such a huge fan.

“I was obsessed with him as a child. My dad took me to see his Dangerous tour when I was younger.

“I was over the moon when I got the part in Thriller Live, it is one of my favourite shows because of the music. I got to know the songs really well.

“The people behind the show worked really closely with Michael Jackson, it felt like we were performing it for him. Knowing he was backing it made it all worthwhile.”

Zoe performed in front of the King of Pop himself when he came to see the show at the Hammersmith Apollo in London. She revealed: “The whole thing was phenomenal.

“To perform in front of Michael Jackson was just surreal and apparently he loved the show.”

Zoe, originally from Consett, County Durham, said that Jackson’s phenomenal career and string of hits was a real inspiration.
