“I was his supervisor and I told him before he left work that it wasn’t his fault he was losing his job. He was a good worker, but there’s just not enough work at the moment.
“I went straight back up to the accident and it was a horrible sight. You could tell straight away that he was dead but you didn’t want to believe it until it was confirmed.”
Despite losing his job, Peter’s family said he was a happy character who was always on the go. His aunty Angela Hoskins said: “He always wanted to be doing something whether it was fishing, looking after his pigeons or going for a walk.”
Angela said that her nephew was a “lovable rogue” who enjoyed spending time with friends and his girlfriend Lauren Smith.
She said: “He had really settled down since he met Lauren. They loved spending time together. She is on holiday in Cyprus with friends and is getting an emergency flight back.” The couple met through friends. Last night Lauren’s Facebook status simply said: “I am left heartbroken, can’t get my head round it. Lost love of life and best friend. Luv u Peter”.
Friends and family have been laying floral tributes at the crash scene on Lemmington Bank, on the B6341 between Alnwick and the A697.
One message simply read: “Never got to say goodbye. Lil Peter P but I will see you again. Love Brendan.” Another well wisher wrote: “Peter we’re going to miss u loads. Just can’t imagine what life’s going to be without you.” Another message said: “To a great friend. You will be forever missed. RIP Peter Pringle. Love U Mate. Dicky.”
The accident happened at around 5.20pm. Police say they still don’t know the cause. Peter had two passengers in the car with him. One of them, David Sloane, is believed to have neck injuries.
