Coast to Coast charity cyclists rewarded

CYCLISTS will be rewarded for their efforts later today after a two-day challenge pedalling from one side of the country to the other.

A total of 150 cyclists took off from Whitehaven in Cumbria yesterday and will finish at Marine Walk in Roker, Sunderland, this afternoon.

The coast-to-coast event is being held in aid of the charity Help for Heroes, to raise money for British troops injured in Iraq and Afghanistan.

A celebratory reward for all participants who complete the route will be waiting at the National Glass Centre in Sunderland, where the cyclists will be presented with a packed lunch.

Staff of the NGC will be on the glass roof, elevated 16ft above the riverside, handing out refreshments and drinks, for those brave enough to accept their reward.

The roof is built with four glass panels fused together, each eight millimetres thick, and can support up to 4,600 people.
