Volunteers needed for SunWalk

VOLUNTEERS are being sought to help with the organisation of the North’s very first SunWalk.

A week today, more than 1000 “bra stars” are expected to descend on Newcastle for the sponsored power walk in aid of breast cancer causes.

And organisers are asking people who can donate a few hours of their time to come along and help out on the day.

With only one week to go, they still have a variety of roles on offer for any willing volunteers and are urging people to come forward and lend a hand at the event in Exhibition Park, on Sunday, July 19.

Chief executive and founder of organising charity Walk the Walk, Nina Barough, said: “Becoming a volunteer is a great, fun experience not to be missed.

“We are calling everyone in Newcastle from all walks of life to help us make the first ever SunWalk Newcastle the best ever.”

Volunteering at next weekend’s event is Rebecca Hambly, 29, of Whitley Bay, in North Tyneside.

Rebecca, who took part in the London MoonWalks in 2004 and 2005, and the Edinburgh event in 2006, decided to volunteer instead of doing the walk after having problems with her feet.

The store supervisor said she wanted to still take part in the event and will be marshalling at the start and finish of the route.
