Hotshot takes to the track

But disaster struck last March when his bike and all of his equipment was stolen, and rather than spend thousands on replacing the whole outfit, he and his parents, Martin and Karen, agreed to buy him a racing bike instead.

Weeks later Chrissy took to the track, and soon discovered riding at speeds of more than 120mph was second nature to him.

“I loved it, and I found it was easier than doing the motocross,” he said.

“I wasn’t great when I started, but once I got used to it I found I was getting better and better every time I raced.”

This year he signed up to contest the hard-fought Aprilia Superteens series, where youngsters battle it out on 125cc machines.

Of his son’s talent, Martin remains philosophical. “At the moment he’s learning his trade and having a good time . . . he is getting better and faster every time he races so his future looks bright.”

And Karen admits that while she does worry, she also knows he is doing something he loves.

As for Chrissy, he’s just loving every minute of it. “If you’d told me last year that I’d be racing with Rossi and James Toseland just a month after being at World Superbikes, I’d have laughed.

“But it’s a reality now. Hopefully in five years time I’ll be beating them!”
