RESIDENTS have told of their shock after a woman died following an incident in a quiet North street.
A man has been charged with murder following the death of the 45-year-old woman – named locally as Catherine Kirton – in Stockton,Teesside.
The woman was found shortly after midnight on Friday at a house in Chestnut Square, Stockton, with serious injuries and she later died from her injuries at the University Hospital of North Tees.
Mark Dunning, 47, of Chestnut Square, Stockton, appeared before Teesside Magistrates in Middlesbrough yesterday morning, to face a murder charge.
Yesterday, a house on the road was cordoned off while two police vans were parked outside, and a scenes of crime forensics investigator was at the scene.
Meanwhile, neighbours in the quiet cul-de-sac street have spoken of their shock at the incident, describing it as “dreadful”.
The square is home to elderly people and families, and residents described it as a quiet place to live, where very little happens.
One neighbour described Ms Kirton and her partner simply as “nice people”, and said the dead woman’s mother had also passed away recently.
