Sir Bobby unites Blair and Brown

Tony Blair also paid tribute to Sir Bobby, writing: “It sounds like it will be a wonderful occasion. Unfortunately I will not be in the UK on 26th July so will not be able to join you all in celebrating all Sir Bobby has done for sport and in particular football.

“I am so pleased all he has done is being recognised through the UEFA merit award.”

Lining up alongside players from England’s 1990 squad and footballers from other eras will be a host of famous faces.

TV presenter Angus Deayton, rugby player-cum-Strictly Come Dancing star Austin Healey and singers Simon Webbe and Craig David are all set to play.

The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation was launched last March and has raised more than £1.3m towards the fight against cancer.

Match organisers are advising fans to arrive at the ground early to avoid long queues and to generate a good pre-match atmosphere.

Tickets for the match are £10 for adults and £5 for children, and are available from www.nufc.co.uk, by calling 0844 372 1892 or at Ticketmaster – www.ticketmaster.co.uk or on the gate.
