LAST week Jade Goody’s mother Jackiey Budden consulted a medium who said her late daughter wasn’t happy about widower Jack Tweed’s partying. But was Jade really making contact from beyond the grave? We ask two locals – a psychic medium and a sceptic – "Can the living really contact the dead?"
Yes
IF ghosts don’t exist then why do stories of their existence go back hundreds, if not thousands, of years and why in polls do more people believe in them than in God?
When people ask about ghosts, the first thing they ask is "why can’t I communicate with spirits?" Well, psychic ability is in all of us. Those who aren’t aware of it can learn to tap into the ability.
I have investigated some of this region’s most haunted venues and I can honestly say that my major experiences are unexplainable.
Last Halloween night, my team and I visited the Morritt hotel, near Barnard Castle. We had no prior knowledge of the venue.
While in the bar area, someone said in my ear the name ‘Anne’. It was not threatening, in fact it was like a ‘how is she’ kind of tone.
Later while the team was in a different area, the deputy manager came to tell us she was going home. I asked if she knew of an Anne. She replied "I am called Anne". Silence. She asked where I had picked up on this and I said in the bar area.
"I was the bar manager for eight years before I became part of the operations team," she replied.
Personal readings are also viewed with scepticism but I have been witness to many readings where the information given is greeted with absolute shock.
I lost a good friend in 2003 and I was given a reading by a stranger. At the end she gave my friend’s full name and said that I should carry on with my psychic work and "achieve my dream" – something my friend always used to say to me.
I find that many sceptics have never been to a ghost or psychic night. To these people I would say this . . . I respect that you don’t believe in ghosts or our communication with them but all I ask is that you at least give a ghost hunt or a reading a try. You never know. . . your opinions may change.
