Man hurt in pub violence at Queen's Head, Annfield Plain

The Queens Head, Anfield Plain

A YOUNG man was believed to be in a critical condition in hospital last night following a Friday night pub fracas.

A fight broke out in the Queen’s Head in Front Street, Annfield Plain, County Durham, shortly before closing time.

Eyewitnesses said the dispute started with an argument between two men over a woman, and quickly escalated into violence.

One man was taken to hospital with a suspected fractured skull.

Yesterday morning a police cordon was placed around the pub, which only re-opened recently after refurbishment.

Forensic experts were inside the pub examining bloodstains on the furniture.

One eyewitness, a local woman who asked not to be named, said: “It looked like something out of the wild west this morning. I walked past to see two police vehicles outside. They had placed a cordon right around the pub.
