Dead dog's ashes dispute

“When the time had passed I went to the vets only to be told I wasn’t getting Ben back. I could not believe what I was hearing.”

Pal, Mark Hobbs, 33, claimed he had a conversation about getting the ashes back. He said: “I asked how long it would take. Sharon did not want to see him put down.”

Shop worker Sharon, 51, of Seaton Delaval, Northumberland, said she was withholding payment. She said: “I got a bill for £93.21, but I am not paying it until I get some satisfaction.

“I am broken-hearted. Ben lived with me when I was abroad and the only time we have been apart is when he was in quarantine.”

The vets involved were Robson and Prescott, of Seaton Delaval, Northumberland.

Senior partner John Prescott said: “We got an emergency call to say the dog was ill. A vet and a nurse were sent out and a decision was taken to put the dog to sleep. We deny completely that she asked for the ashes back.”

He said arrangements could have been made for a private cremation at an extra cost if a request was made.
