HE WAS inspired to raise money for a cause close to the heart of a North man who tragically lost his life.

Three years and nearly £250,000 later, his mission is still going strong.

Former Cleveland police officer Brian Laverick is the founder of the Boundary 500 Motorcycle Group, which organises motorcycling activities to raise money for The Great North Air Ambulance Service and Zoë’s Baby Hospice in Cleveland.

The group began with a 500-mile sponsored ride around the area covered by the Great North Air Ambulance, taking in Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, County Durham and Teesside.

Now Brian, who formed the group following the tragic death of Cumbria Air Ambulance crew member Dr Rupert Bennett, who was killed in a climbing accident in 2006, is celebrating after reaching a new high in his efforts.

Brian presented the Great North Air Ambulance with a cheque for £45,253, taking the total raised over the past three years to more than £243,000.
