Christopher Turnbull dad in plea for change in law

THE DEVASTATED dad of a young man killed in a horror smash is demanding a change in the law to stop the driver involved making bids for freedom.

Gary Forster was jailed for 10 years for smashing his BMW Z4 sports car into the back of Christopher Turnbull’s Ford Escort at an astonishing 163mph.

Christopher, 22, was killed instantly in the crash, which happened on the A19 near Washington in January of last year, and Forster fled the scene, leaving the Escort so badly damaged it was barely recognisable.

Forster – who was fuelled by rage at the breakdown of a relationship and driving “like a maniac” – had his second appeal bid refused last Friday by three Court of Appeal judges.

And Christopher’s furious father, Steve Turnbull, says Forster should now stop appealing and “face up to his punishment”.

He said: “If the appeal wasn’t allowed the first time that should be it . . . but that’s not the way the British legal system works, and it should be changed.
