Family puts conkers up for sale on eBay

INTERNET shoppers are buying up conkers online with no strings attached to the benefit of one North family.

Glynis Smith and her children Ethan, 10, Rhiannon, eight, and Rowan, five, went conkering in Gosforth Park, Newcastle last weekend and came back with a bumper crop of horse chestnuts.

The family from Seaton Delaval, in Northumberland, then put some of the conkers they didn’t want up for sale on eBay - pictured on screen with the children’s Action Man and Barbie - and were amazed when bids started coming in.

Glynis said: “We came back with a bag full, and I jokingly said they should sell them on eBay. Of course they begged me to let them do it.

“I didn’t think there was a market for it, but I looked on eBay and found loads of people selling batches of conkers. Apparently if you put them in the corner of your room they scare away spiders.”

To give a sense of scale Glynis took photographs of the family’s toys holding the conkers up. She said: “We had a bit of fun with it and roped in Barbie and Action Man to help.”
