Listener claims emails from DJ Mark Thorburn led to affair

Metro Radio's Sally Aitchison speaks out

LAST night, Sally Aitchison, Regional Managing Director of Bauer Radio, released a statement.

She said: “'We are aware of these emails and they will be reviewed as part of our ongoing investigation.

“Mark is still suspended from the station. We have no further comment to make.”

Last week we told how the presenter, of Haydon Bridge, Northumberland, was suspended after sending suggestive emails to a listener while he was on the air.

The 41-year-old invited himself around to the woman’s home in an exchange of messages from his work email address.

The 27-year-old listener, who does not want to be named, had contacted the DJ, using his Metro Radio address, to request a song.

But after Thorburn made a number of suggestive replies the exchange escalated into a steamy conversation, during which Thorburn, who less than two months ago was arrested for assaulting a woman believed to be his wife, makes a number of sexual references.

After the emails were uncovered, he was suspended with immediate effect, and he issued a statement in which he pleaded for forgiveness.

He said: “I have behaved in an extremely foolish way which I deeply regret.”
