“It just feels so great. Being the first girl on the TOCA package to win a championship is really exciting.”
Proud dad and team boss Simon burst into tears as his girl crossed the line. “I’m thrilled for Sarah and the whole team,” he said. “Her maturity is incredible. That’s why she’s the winner.”
The championship is organised by Yorkshire’s sportscar manufacturer Ginetta Cars and chairman Lawrence Tomlinson was on hand to congratulate Sarah.
“Ginetta has always backed female drivers in this series and it’s nice to see one come though and win,” he said.
“Although I feel sorry for Sarah’s rivals, it’s been the most fantastic racing and it’s gone right to the wire. It’s also great that she’s from Yorkshire: a Yorkshire champion in a Yorkshire car.”
And the traditional bottle of champagne for spraying clearly wasn’t enough for the celebrations, as the team produced several more to toast the success.
Sarah, who took her first tentative steps towards racing at the age of four when she stepped into a kart, issued one final chilling word of warning to potential rivals of the future: “There’s a lot more to come from me yet.”
