SOLDIERS risking their lives in Afghanistan will be treated to a DVD of a Tyneside concert.
The Salute Our Heroes concert, held at The Sage Gateshead, raised more than £10,000 for soldier’s charity the Army Benevolent Fund (ABF).
And the star-packed gig was filmed for a DVD, with copies now set to be sent out as a morale boost to our lads fighting at Camp Bastion.
The gig on September 19 included headliners Alan Fox, Britain’s Got Talent entrants Irresistible and more than 100 military band musicians, as well as compere Major Alasdair Hutton OBE, the voice of the Edinburgh Tattoo.
Cash raised by ticket sales, donations and a collection bucket will help injured squaddies as they return to civilian life
The ABF, which is now in its 70th year, directly supports both soldiers injured on the front line and veterans suffering from long-term illnesses, with contributions towards vital equipment and support.
And as the North East has traditionally provided plenty of soldiers, a large percentage of the cash is spent in the region.
