Ronan left numb by Stephen Gately's death

Ronan Keating

HEARTBROKEN Boyzone frontman Ronan Keating has told how he still hasn’t faced up to losing his friend Stephen Gately.

Fans across the world were left devastated last month following the sudden death of Stephen, 33, at his holiday home in Majorca.

Stephen’s husband Andrew Cowles found the singer and songwriter the morning after the couple had enjoyed a night out in Palma with a friend.

A post mortem later found he died of natural causes.

Five weeks on, lead singer Ronan has admitted his friend and band member’s passing still hasn’t sunk in, and it simply feels like Stephen is away on a trip.

He said: “We are still numb, I don’t think it’s hit any of us yet . . . we don’t realise that he’s gone.

“We just think he’s away. We are away from each other, the five of us, and that’s what it feels like.

“He’s in Spain, New York, Disneyland – places he liked to go.

“When it’s going to hit us is when we’re decided to go ahead and make this record for Stephen, this Boyzone album which is coming out next year.

“That’s going to be the hard thing, when we are together as the four-piece.

“It’s hard . . . it’s just been devastating you know, our worlds will never be the same again, our lives will never be the same again.

“Our best friend is gone.”
