Sunday Sun air ambulance appeal off to a flyer

Money raised so far

WHAT a week it’s been. In just seven days the Sunday Sun Air Angels campaign has pulled in donations and pledges worth £50,000.

Readers and families in the North have rallied around our call and got us off to a flying start.

Celebrities including the Hairy Bikers and Gladiator Amazon have rushed to back the bid.

But there is still a long way to go before we reach our £1m target.

We’re asking mums, dads, grandparents, youngsters, schools, churches, teams, clubs, and all our readers to keep digging deep and get us to our total.

The Great North Air Ambulance receives absolutely no Government or NHS funding.

With your support the Sunday Sun wants to raise this unprecedented amount of cash to buy the charity its own helicopter.

By owning instead of leasing, the GNAA will be able to save more lives, ease more pain and suffering, and secure its position for the future.

Fundraising manager Mandy Drake said: “It’s been absolutely unbelievable how generous the public in our region have been so far.

“It’s beyond what we expected and we’re delighted people are doing all they can.

“We’ve had a great response from people wanting to do events, ranging from coffee mornings to race days and gold tournaments.
