“From a consumer point of view it makes you question what kind of quality control procedures these major retailers and manufacturers have in place to protect customers’ safety.”
Vicky and Paul, who works as a chemical engineer, took the offending pots back to Tesco and their money was refunded.
“This has really put me off both shopping at Tesco and eating these desserts,” Vicky added. “Every time I think about it, it makes me feel sick.”
A Tesco spokesperson said: “We are sorry for what must have been a rather unpleasant discovery and we have apologised to the customer with a full refund.
“We have checked all other stock and found no further problems.”
A Heinz spokesperson said: “We were concerned to hear from Vicky Robson about her experience.
“Great care and attention is given to every aspect of preparing and making our baby foods, from sorting and screening of ingredients to the stringent precautions and exacting standards adhered to during manufacture.
“In this instance it appears that the packaging may have become damaged after manufacture.
“This remains an isolated report and no similar complaint has been received involving this product.”
