POLICE have launched a major investigation after a stabbing in North Tyneside.
The attack happened in the early hours of yesterday morning, at a flat on High Street East, Wallsend.
Neighbours reported an argument in the street, during which a man was stabbed.
Police confirmed last night that a 27-year-old man is being treated in hospital for stab wounds.
The area of the attack was cordoned off for much of yesterday as officers studied the scene and questioned neighbours.
The victim is said to be stable in North Tyneside General Hospital. His injuries are not life threatening.
Neighbours at the scene, just opposite the Coach and Horse pub, said they weren’t aware someone had been stabbed at first.
One, who did not want to be named, said: “There was some commotion earlier in the evening.
“A big group was in the street and they seemed to be arguing, there was a lot of shouting.
