Wallsend stabbing victim in stable condition

“The police came and they were here this morning and afternoon. It was a bit of a shock to hear that someone had been stabbed.

“It has shaken me up quite a bit. Generally this area is OK and we don’t get that much trouble.”

Another neighbour said: “It was in the early hours of the morning. The police came round and knocked on our door.

“I don’t know which flat was involved in the trouble. I just hope he is all right.”

A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: “We received a report of an incident in the High Street East area of Wallsend at 4.18am on Saturday.

“A 27-year-old man was found with stab wounds. He was taken to North Tyneside General Hospital.

“We are carrying out an inquiry into the circumstances of the stabbing. We are keen to speak to anyone who may be able to help with the investigation.”
