A KILLER cop jailed after mowing down a teenage girl has been granted leave from prison to spend time with his family, her furious mum has learned.
PC John Dougal was driving at 94mph without his blue lights or siren on before ploughing into 16-year-old Hayley Adamson in Newcastle’s West End, as she crossed a road with friends.
Yet despite serving just eight months of a three-year sentence for causing Hayley’s death by dangerous driving, Dougal will soon be released to spend three days with his family after Christmas.
Hayley’s devastated mum Yvonne Adamson is to launch an official complaint through Northumbria’s Victim Liaison Service, saying he should not be set free until his sentence is served.
Last night Yvonne blasted: “Where is the justice? Christmas is the hardest time of year for us, so to find this out now has just destroyed us.
“Why should he get to see his family at all? We can’t spend any time at all with Hayley ever again.”
Dougal said he’d been following what he believed to be a stolen car as he sped down Newcastle’s Denton Road on May 19 last year, hurtling over the brow of a hill in his Volvo estate.
Hayley was killed at the scene.
Yvonne continued: “At the end of the day I know he didn’t mean it, but he was a police officer who abused his position, he brought disgrace to Northumbria Police and his family. He gave up his rights when he killed my daughter.
“I called Northumbria Probation service last week, and they confirmed he will be allowed out for three days, but we don’t know when.
“He won’t be home for Christmas but he could be home before New Year."
