A MUM has told of her despair after she left a cancerous tumour to grow for nine months to the size of an orange after doctors told her they thought it was just a harmless cyst.
Now Marie Glover’s life hangs in the balance as she undergoes chemotherapy and waits for test results that will tell if the cancer has now spread throughout her body.
The 43-year-old went to her GP in March after discovering a small lump in her breast and was sent for a mammogram at Sunderland Royal Hospital.
She claims doctors told her they thought it was a floating cyst and if there was anything to worry about she would be contacted by letter.
The hospital claims that a series of letters were sent out asking for her to go in for further tests, but she never attended.
But Marie, of Seaton, Seaham, insists that despite making follow up calls to the hospital and her GP, she never received a letter and therefore thought she was in the clear.
It was not until November, when the lump had grown to the size of an orange that she returned to the GP and was sent straight to hospital where she was given the devastating news that she had cancer.
Now she’s awaiting further test results to see if the cancer has spread.
And she is asking the hospital and her GP why more was not done to make sure she got her test results.
