Murder hunt launched after man found dead in Hendon

Police investigation into a suspected murder at a house on Tower Street West Sunderland

A MURDER hunt has been launched after a man was attacked in his own home in the middle of the night.

The 46-year-old victim is thought to have suffered a wound to the chest and staggered into the street where he asked passers-by to help him.

An ambulance was called after the attack, which happened around 2.35am, in Sunderland.

The man was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital but died around 4am.

Detectives say neighbours heard shouting, swearing and a window break shortly before the murder in Tower Street West, Hendon.

Police have arrested six people - five men aged between 18 and 34 and a 17-year-old woman - but a weapon has not yet been found.

Det Chief Insp Peter Bent said: “This investigation is at an early stage.
