As supporters chanted “Newcastle’s Got Talent”, Piers signed a number of autographs and took his time to chat to freezing fans.
Piers, wearing a stylish overcoat, then walked into the theatre ready to face the contestants.
Amanda managed to wave at a number of fans, as well as attempting to walk in her killer bright blue heels.
Show hosts Ant and Dec were still full of smiles after their double victory at last week’s National TV Awards.
Many fans had braved the freezing temperatures since before dawn just to get one glimpse of their idols.
They were armed with blankets, sleeping bags and thermals. Fans queued for miles to watch the auditions and many were disappointed to find they had turned up too late.
One fan that had definitely secured her seat in the in theatre was Lauren Spicer, who had been there since 7am.
The 20-year-old said: “I love Simon Cowell. I’ve been up since six o’clock this morning. I’m so excited to see him. He’s great.”
Groups of hopefuls entered the stage door of the theatre, hoping to impress the judges with some of their interesting costume choices.
One contestant was Gary Manson or Miss Gina Strings as he liked to be called. The drag act posed for a number of pictures and strutted his stuff for fans outside the theatre.
Dressed in a velvet black dress and purple wig, the 24-year-old said: “I’m hoping to impress all the judges today, especially Simon.
“My act will be full of singing, dancing and me looking absolutely fabulous.”
