“We’re both very excited for Paul. Just to be nominated is fantastic for him.
“It’s a shame he wasn’t nominated for his work on Avatar too, but it’s like he’s competing against himself anyway.”
After the Baftas, Paul, who went to St Peter’s RC Primary School and the former St Edmund Campion School, both in Gateshead, will be rubbing shoulders with the likes of George Lucas and James Cameron at the Oscars ceremony on March 7.
But that’s nothing out of the ordinary for the 39-year-old, who has worked with a series of top directors and producers, adding computer wizardry to all manner of films since first getting involved in the business in the 1990s.
His CV reads like an action movie collector’s wishlist, including Jurassic Park: The Lost World, all three of the newest Star Wars movies, Pearl Harbor, Pirates of the Caribbean, Mission Impossible 3, Iron Man, Transformers 1 and 2 and three of the Harry Potter movies.
Peter added: “It all started when he was at Newcastle College.
“There weren’t any animation courses back then, so he just had to play around on the computer at the college.”
