LAST minute preparations are under way for the sell-out Sunday For Sammy gigs at Newcastle City Hall.
Yesterday saw a stream of North East celebrities - including Tim Healy, Kevin Whately, Denise Welch, Brendan Healy and many surprise guests - assemble on Tyneside during a day of rehearsals for the popular concerts, which will play a matinee and evening performance at the venue today.
Sound checks, wardrobe run-throughs, friendly reunions and script-in-hand readings of comedy sketches have all featured over the weekend as the top-secret running order and guest list has been confirmed.
And yesterday morning saw more than a dollop of panic, too.
The tight-knit relationships and professionalism of the cast was put to the test when Emmerdale actress Charlie Hardwick had to pull out due to a horrible bug.
The popular Sunday For Sammy stalwart was to play an anchor role in the Slack Lasses spoof sketches alongside real life Loose Woman Denise.
“She is absolutely gutted,” said Tim Healy, who founded the concerts and associated charity fund 10 years ago with Jimmy Nail in memory of their friend and fellow actor, Sammy Johnson, who died suddenly in 1998.
