TWO youths have been arrested on suspicion of murdering a soldier, who died after being punched in the head at a nightclub.

A 16-year-old and 17-year-old, both from Darlington, County Durham, were questioned over the death of Andrew Gibson, 19, of Cumbernauld, near Glasgow.

He died five days after the alleged attack at Escapade nightclub, in Gladstone Street, Darlington, on December 11 last year.

He was found unconscious near the dancefloor at about 1am.

Shortly after the attack, the two youths who were arrested yesterday were detained on suspicion of assault.

They have since been bailed while police wait for further medical evidence, so a decision can be taken as to any charges that will be made.
