Fire rips through Spennymoor doctor’s surgery

Flames from the surgery blaze can be seen clearly from nearby houses

MEDICAL cover in a North town has been left in chaos after a blaze ripped through a doctor’s surgery.

The fire at the Aden House surgery and dispensary, in Spennymoor, County Durham, destroyed the building and, it’s feared, thousands of medical records.

Gail Anderson, who lives opposite the surgery, said: “At first there was just black smoke but then flames began shooting right through the roof.

“Once the emergency services realised how serious the blaze was they moved everyone away and evacuated Asda, which is next door.

“I’m pregnant at the moment and the surgery is where I go for my antenatal clinic.

“It’s the main surgery in the town, so it will probably take some time to sort out medical cover.”

The surgery was opened by Sunderland football club chairman Niall Quinn.

Last night fire crews were still dampening down the gutted building.
