NORTH beauty Roisin Norton hopes to bring a smile to Irish eyes when she bids to capture a major title in the Emerald Isle.
The 22-year-old Teesside University student beat off stiff competition to be crowned the winner of the Newcastle stage of the Rose of Tralee competition.
Contestants had to face a grilling from judges, both face to face and in front of an audience, before singing live on stage.
Roisin, who lives on Victoria Road, Middlesbrough, said: “I didn’t expect to get this far. I was totally out of my comfort zone, but the closer it got to it the more I wanted it.
“When the results were called out it was terrifying. All the other girls were amazing and everyone supported each other. At the end it was quite sad leaving them.”
The final was held at Jurys Inn, Newcastle, where the judges interviewed all the contestants before a drinks reception where the girls were escorted dressed in their finest ball gowns.
The festivities then moved on to the Tyneside Irish Centre, in Gallowgate, Newcastle, for an Irish dancing spectacle before the final on-stage questioning.
