DOTING loved ones of a woman who was brutally attacked in her own home have launched a scathing attack on the justice system.
It is now more than two years since Kathryn Cook was savagely beaten and left for dead by her ex-lover.
Her daughter was just 10 when she discovered Kathryn’s badly battered body in a bedroom of their home in Penshaw Gardens, Stanley, County Durham.
The brutal attack on the 44-year-old left her with severe head injuries and fighting for her life in a seven-month coma.
Just days before her life support was turned off her former partner, Paul Northey, was jailed for causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Now her family have claimed they are no closer to justice as they continue to fight for her alleged killer to face the full force of the law.
Last night mum Kathleen said: “We are getting no information nowadays. The whole case seems to have come to a dead end, it’s just awful.
“The last thing we were told was that there might have been a court hearing on January 24 this year.
“Come next January Kathryn would have been dead for two years and justice for her has still not been resolved. We can’t get on with our lives because we have this looming over us. We can’t put Kathryn and what happened to her to rest.”
Within days of the attack in June 2008 Durham Police arrested Northey, 40, formerly of Wylam Road, Stanley, County Durham.
