FOOTBALLER Andy Carroll last night netted his most spectacular effort...the support of the ex he was accused of assaulting.
Laurie Henderson was at the centre of an alleged early morning dust-up which ended with the £35m former Toon striker in a police cell.
After appearing in the dock, charges were eventually dropped against the-then Newcastle United number 9 – transferred to Liverpool on Monday for a British record fee.
But following his departure from Tyneside, Laurie, 18, spoke for the first time about her ordeal and revealed to the Sunday Sun:
:: how she was overjoyed the case did not go to court
:: her horror at being catapulted into a media storm
:: her surprise at Carroll’s move from his beloved Toon, and
:: how she thinks he will go on to play at Manchester United.
Laurie and Carroll dated for four months last year before their relationship fell apart amid the allegations which saw him spend the night in police custody.
Fashion model Laurie is no longer in touch with the 22-year-old ace but insisted she had no hard feelings towards him and wished him all the best following his record-breaking move.
Laurie said: “I’m glad the case is over with, I didn’t want to have to go to court and give evidence.
“I’m pleased for Andy’s move to Liverpool, we are not in touch anymore but I wish him all the best.”
It was in October Laurie found herself at the centre of a sensational storm when the assault allegations erupted.
A dust-up was said to have flared at the luxury home in Darras Hall, a haven for Premiership footballers and the megarich, near Newcastle, that Laurie shares with three friends.
Carroll had enjoyed a night out with friends in Newcastle following the team’s 2-2 draw with Wigan Athletic on October 17 and returned to the posh pad.
The England international was arrested in the early hours of the morning, spent the night in a cell and appeared at Hexham Magistrates’ Court the following day charged with assault.
